In an effort spearheaded by DSI and the Ottawa-based Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, over 70 signatories call on Canada to take the lead in transferring Russia’s frozen state assets to a compensation fund for supporting Ukraine - in an open letter published Wednesday in Canada’s National Post.
Among the distinguished signatories are former Canadian Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper, former British Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak, and former Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš. They were joined by 11 former Cabinet Ministers from Canada and allied countries, including former Canadian Citizenship & Immigration Minister Chris Alexander, former Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren, former Latvian Deputy Prime Minister, Defence Minister, and Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks, and former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
