About DSI
The Democratic Strategy Initiative (DSI) builds strategic capacity and culture for free societies – and designs the strategies they need to win in a geo-competitive world.
Based in Berlin but working with partners across the free world, DSI develops the skills, knowledge and networks that politicians, officials, experts, business people, and civil society need to become more effective strategic actors. Working with these partners and informed by our expert network, we formulate strategies on priority issues and show how to build them into coherent grand strategy.
DSI policy experts conduct cutting-edge research, targeted analysis and develop concrete policy proposals across three main priority areas. These are Emerging Defence, Economic Statecraft, and 'Homeland Security’ (encompassing Critical Infrastructure, Disinformation & Cybersecurity elements). DSI maintains a network of policymakers and policy shapers across the democratic world – to translate analysis into concrete, evidence-based policy proposals. Through this process, DSI has influenced political party platforms, governing coalition agreements, and European Commission policy proposals, as well as countless public and closed-door policy debates.
DSI itself – and members of our international network – have spearheaded numerous impactful public appeals to the highest levels of foreign policymaking. DSI’s events have connected experts and high-level politicians in Germany, Europe, and the wider democratic world during events such as the Munich Security Conference and Café Kyiv. Crucially, DSI events – like our publications, consultations and media appearances, challenge key stakeholders to go beyond admiring the problem and develop geo-competitive strategic solutions – and suggest how this can be done.
That’s the DSI Difference.
